Twenty-two state workers received unemployment benefits while they were working, and 20 of those said they were unemployed while they were collecting state salaries, Comptroller Edward Regan said.
Regan said an audit found the 22 workers received $8,419 in benefits for which they were not eligible during May and June of 1985. Benefits received by the 20 employees who said they were unemployed totaled $8,136, he said.
"We found 20 employees who were trying to rip off the system, as well as the taxpayers," Regan said Saturday.
