Vic: Compulsory literacy tests for Year 7
The Victorian Government is reportedly going to introduce compulsory literacy and numeracytesting of Year 7 students.
The Age reports Education Minister LYNNE KOSKY wants to make the tests compulsory ingovernment schools either this year or next.
Under the current system, schools are invited to test their year 7 students, and about50 per cent of government schools do so.
Victoria is the only state or territory that does not have compulsory testing.
However Victorian Australian Education Union president MARY BLUETT warns the move willprovoke secondary school principals to boycott the testing system.
She told the newspaper the union is staunchly opposed to universal testing becauseit encourages the ranking of schools.
