Fed: National road toll reaches 45

SYDNEY, Dec 28 AAP - The national holiday road toll has risen to 45 after a death on
the Gold Coast this afternoon.

A 24-year-old motorcyclist died after his machine and a truck collided on the corner
of Springbrook Road and Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba, at around 3pm (AEST).

His death takes Queensland's holiday road toll to ten.

Also today, South Australian police said the death of a 77-year-old Adelaide man took
the state's holiday road toll to five.

The man's car crashed into an electricity pole by Cross Road at Clarence Park, in Adelaide's
south, at about 10.30am (CDT), a police spokeswoman said.

The man, from the southern suburb of Panorama, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital,
where he died at about 2pm (CDT).

And the death early today of a teenager injured in an accident in southern NSW lifted
that state's holiday road toll 12.

The 17-year-old died in Canberra Hospital at 1.15am (AEDT) after being airlifted from
the accident scene on Brungle Rd, near Tumut.

He was injured when his Holden ute and a logging truck collided head-on at 5.30am yesterday
(AEDT).

In Victoria, 12 people have so far died in road accidents this holiday season, while
the toll is three in Western Australia, one in Tasmania, and two in the Northern Territory.

The Australian Capital Territory remains fatality free so far.

(Eds: National Christmas road toll figures are for the period 0001 December 19 to 2359
