SA: Court expected to rule on Avellino case tomorrow
ADELAIDE, Aug 19 AAP - Former Australian netballer Natalie Avellino is expected tofind out tomorrow whether she can play for the Adelaide Thunderbirds for the remainderof the national netball league season.
Avellino was discarded by the Sydney Sandpipers at the end of last season and signedwith the Thunderbirds.
But Netball Australia (NA) ruled that she was not eligible to play for the Thunderbirdsbecause she was not a resident of SA.
Avellino is seeking an injunction against that ruling from the South Australian Supreme Court.
She played her first match for Adelaide last Friday night, against the Canberra AISDarters, after the court granted her a temporary injunction ahead of a hearing today.
Supreme Court Justice John Perry said today he expected to make a final ruling tomorrow.
Avellino has claimed she is a resident of SA as she spends five nights a week in thestate, has a part-time job with an Adelaide company, and is on the South Australian electoralroll.
But Netball Australia today submitted copies of Avellino's mobile phone account, frequentflyer points and bank account, which it said showed she had actually spent most of hertime during the season in New South Wales.
