MBNA LOSSES FALL, SHARES RISE.(Brief Article)

MBNA Corp.'s stock rose 10% today in the wake of a report by the card issuer showing lower losses in its $107 billion loan portfolio for February. A similar filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission for January that showed higher losses caused a minor sell-off of Wilmington, DE-based MBNA's shares last month (CardLine 2-19). Today, MBNA says its annualized net credit loss rate on the entire portfolio was 5.48% of managed receivables, down from 5.55% in January. Managed loss rates in February for cards alone fell to 5.10% from 5.15% a month earlier. Losses on other consumer loans fell to 7.94% of managed receivables from 8.20% in January.
