Qld: Man goes berserk after dog bite

A man's been fined and sentenced to community service after bashing a dog owner over
the head with a steering wheel lock after he claimed he was bitten by one of his dogs.

Forty-three-year-old DAVID JOHN RODEN pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court
to assaulting RUSSELL JOHN BLYTH in April last year.

Mr BLYTH, who's 47, was walking two of his dogs at Strathpine, in Brisbane's northern
suburbs when RODEN walked past and accused his Bichon Frise of biting him.

An argument broke out and RODEN went and got the wheel lock and started bashing Mr
BLYTH around the head and back.

He only stopped when a passer-by pulled him away.

Mr BLYTH continues to deny his dog bit RODEN.

Judge TONY HEALY sentenced RODEN to 200 hours community service saying the unprovoked
attack caused a great deal of distress and pain to Mr BLYTH.

Mr BLYTH sustained cuts and bruises in the attack and was off work for a month.
